What's The Best Pub In Notting Hill?

Part ‘N’ of our two year mission to visit the best London pubs, alphabetically.

So, we're up to part N, and there was only really one choice: Notting Hill. (What do you mean 'Northolt'?) As ever, we'd like you to vote for your favourite pubs or bars, and we'll put together a pub crawl round the top few. NOTE: Don't limit your votes to the centre of Notting Hill — anything within a reasonable distance for a pub crawl can be considered, including Bayswater and Ladbroke Grove.

Here’s how to play:

  1. Let us know (in the comments below, on Facebook, or by tweeting #bestNottingHillPub) your favourite pubs in the area.
  2. We’ll tally up the votes in a couple of days.
  3. We’ll then arrange a pub crawl around the four most popular choices. You’re welcome to join us.
  4. As mentioned above, the definition of what's Notting Hill and what's Bayswater/Holland Park/Ladbroke Grove is up to you. Feel free to nominate places in these areas if you genuinely think they're worth visiting.
  5. By ‘pubs’, we’re using a shorthand — you can also vote for bars.
  6. You can nominate more than one place. All nominations count as one vote, whether you rank them or not. Likes on Facebook and retweets of someone else’s vote are also counted as new votes.
  7. Venues should be open to the public with no pre-booking, entry fee or membership required.

So, where shall we go?

The Windsor Castle on Campden Hill Road is always a winner for me!

Deborah Klaassen

It's in the picture: The Portobello Gold (because of the jungle in the back, the birds, food, staff and locals)

The Cow on Westbourne Park Road is brilliant

Portobello Gold/ Windsor Castle/ The Earl of Lonsdale

Dean Nicholas

The Elgin, 'cause it's historic (not only did my parents meet there but it was the scene of ex-Londonist writer Julie Palmer-Hoffman's mammoth drinking session in 2008). And the Churchill Arms too.

Marian Gorin

Uxbridge Arms and Windsor Castle

The Gold and the Uxbridge Arms. Both good, solid, old manny choices.

Definitely the Churchill Arms near Notting Hill Gate, for the kitschy interior and the great ambience!

Andrew Carey

The Elgin for what it is now
and for what it's been before.

Here's my list for Pubs/Bars in Notting Hill and their USP's:

Mau Mau's on Portobello for cocktails and music,

The Walmer Castle for catching the evening sun and the Thai restaurant upstairs,

Crazy Homies for margarita's and decor,

The Metropolitan for dancing and watching the football,

The Ladbroke Arms for great food and fun posh locals,

and The Windsor Castle for its old pub charm and beer garden.

The Elgin definitely for the atmosphere and live music

try the new pub called Portobello House on ladbroke grove - an old pub done up very well with good food

Ed D

Windsor Castle, The Champion, Elgin, The Lonsdale for the beer garden and the Westbourne for a bit of pavement drinking and quirky indoors.

Stephanie G

The Oak, The Lonsdale and The Cow

If you want food too then it has to be Bumpkin

The Westbourne

One of the best pubs in Notting Hill is the Castle on Portobello road. This pub, just like the whole area, is filled with art and music events. Check out this blog to know more about it.
