Best Of Londonist: St Jude's, Jazz & The Jubilee Line

Your Sunday morning best-of-Londonist weekly round-up.

Photos of the week: Glorious autumn colour in Kensington Gardens by MJ Conlon

This week’s best of Londonist is guest edited by Rachel Clare, Artistic Director at Crying Out Loud, co-producers of Currency. It’s a festival exploring how collaboration, shared experience and performance can create new ways of thinking and drive fresh ideas. It isn’t straightforward dance, circus or theatre but performance that blurs the borders of all three. On each of the four nights you can find shows that defy convention, watch studio collaborations that are deliberately wrong-footing and you can discuss it all with your fellow spectators over supper in the cafe.

Guest Editor picks

  • Hoxton Hall 150th anniversary:  One of London's hidden gems (and conveniently very near the Crying Out Loud office) Hoxton Hall is a beautiful grade II listed theatre with a rich history. It is currently running a campaign to restore itself to its former glory.
  • Discover Iranian cinema: I'm usually watching live work in a theatre but if I can I love going to the cinema. Now firmly rooted into the capital's calendar. the Iranian Film Festival is essential viewing for anyone interested in cinema.
  • London Jazz Festival mapped: One of my favourite annual events in London - I look forward to this festival of world class jazz but prefer to go to the smaller venues like the Jazz Cafe Posk in the Polish Centre in Hammersmith and The 606 in Fulham to see Soweto Kinch for a bit of be-bop jazz-infused radical hip-hop.
  • London's Historical Health Records: Essential browsing from the Wellcome Trust as I'm fascinated by domestic history.
  • The Lost Lectures: See the most interesting of speakers in the most interesting of venues, this time a boxing ring.

Currency 2013 happens on Thursday 14, Tuesday 19, Thursday 21 & Saturday 23 November at The Place. Tickets £17/£14 concessions.
