What’s The Best Pub In Kennington And Oval?

The Dog House. Image by Google.

Part ‘K’ of our alphabetical pub crawl around London.

We asked you to nominate your favourite pubs and bars in the Kennington/Oval area. 192 votes were cast, across 24 venues. Here is the top 10 (see below for the four we’re doing on the pub crawl).

  1. The Dog House (23 votes)
  2. Old Red Lion (21 votes)
  3. Prince of Wales (20 votes)
  4. The Ship (16 votes)
  5. The Fentiman Arms (15 votes)
  6. Brown Derby (14 votes)
  7. Cable Cafe (12 votes)
  8. Cinema Museum Bar (10 votes)
  9. The Black Prince (9 votes)
  10. The Oval Lounge (8 votes)

The map below shows where the votes went. Green dotted markers show the top four pubs, which will form our pub crawl. The rest of the top 10 are shown in yellow, while all other nominations are in red. (Note: a red pub doesn’t mean it’s a bad pub…in each case, at least one person thought this was the best, and some might be little-known or on the fringes of the area.)

8.30pm The Prince of Wales
9.30pm The Old Red Lion

Dog House is a good boozerbut in 2 years of going there I have only seen the manager once and the staff have never bothered to say hello or make any effort to be even remotely personable. The Black Prince deserves more recognition IMO

I have always a drink and enjoy the party in the Dog House.

A new pub has recently re-opened in Oval. It’s a little hidden away but only 5 minutes walk from Oval station. It’s called The Roebuck and I think it’s just had a bit of a facelift. I am going there for Sunday lunch this week and they are starting food again. I used to go to the Fentiman and it’s only 1 minute from there.

It’s off Clayland’s road in Ashmole street, by the school. They have real ales too..I hope it’s worth checking out.

Hi Matt – good Crawl last night, enjoyed meeting everyone. I see that #7 on your list The Cable Cafe is mentioned in the Evening Standard… http://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/foodanddrink/cafes-are-the-new-pubs-8509551.html The name comes from an old Cable Car here once upon a time.

One of Kenningotn’s best pubs is “The Kennington” on Camberwell New Road next to the park. Great food, drink, staff, music, atmosphere and location. Hard to beat!
