Week Around the -Ists

In Los Angeles, LAist most definitely celebrated Thanksgiving like no other. After all, one has to keep up all the energy to keep on walking the line at the Writers Strike and fighting the unfortunate return of the wildfires in Malibu, which single handedly destroyed over fifty homes within the first 24 hours. National outlets may be covering the fires, but CNN also found it is easier to buy a gun than fruit and veggies in South Central. On the entertainment front, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing Showtime over the show titled Californication and Rami Kashou of Project Runway chatted with LAist about his Palestinian heritage and, of course, designing beauty.

coreyturkey.jpgIn honor of the holidays, Bostonist whipped up a vegan dish that turkeys would enjoy, and they also gave advice on how to handle your unruly relatives. Then, they gave thanks for such a fantastic sports year, Mike Lowell's return to the Red Sox for another season, and a certain newscaster's inability to resist Tom Brady.

DCist spent the holiday week thinking about the past and looking toward the future. They wondered about what the Supreme Court's decision to examine D.C.'s controversial handgun ban would mean and got a little sad about predictions of little to no snow in the city this year. They also looked back at what former presidents had said Thanksgiving meant to them and got their first look at the woman who masterminded the theft of at least $30 million from the city's tax coffers.

As the London Transport Museum reopens after a £22 million renovation, Londonist found themselves vehicularly obsessed. Heathrow, the world's least favorite airport is set to get even bigger with the possibility of a third runway and sixth terminal. The fire-gutted classic ship Cutty Sark is almost back to full splendor. Meanwhile, London's tubes will remain stuffy while their canals are a wildlife delight.

SFist shouted out gracias for such stories as "the gay vs. the black" Vallejo mayoral showdown ending in a DUI and a victory by a scant four votes, a very special San Francisco Black Friday, learning how to make authentic egg nog, and the opening of yet another Apple Store. What they weren't thankful for this week? Not receiving a callback for a speaking part in Gus Van Sant's Milk. Hrumph.

Sampaist was one of the 65 thousand people having fun 'booing' the Brazilian soccer team after a narrow victory over Uruguay. Kaka, Ronaldinho, and Robinho didn't play well, but Brazil still scored the necessary three points for the South American World Cup qualifying match.
