It wasn't so long ago we were discussing the ease of scoring Es and whizz in Croydon. Perhaps stung into action by such reports, it appears that Croydon council are getting tough. They've invoked anti-terror legislation, in the form of the RIPA, six times in the past 12 months for offenses such as illegal trading and fly-tipping. RIPA, for those who don't follow the ever arcane activities of our increasingly Orwellian society, is the......

So, it seems that Steven Bigby who was just 22, was killed over a drink being thrown outside McDonald's on Oxford Street yesterday. Steven died in hospital from a stab wound to the chest. The police are not treating the incident as gang related or premeditated, but are looking for "Four men, who were black and aged between 20 and 30, [who] fled the scene after the attack." Anyone who took photographs of the scene......

A man in his 20s was fatally stabbed yesterday evening, in broad daylight, outside McDonalds on Oxford Street. The incident happened at the beginning of rush hour, around 17.00, when the area must have been packed with hot, shoppy people who could have witnessed the incident. Police are talking to those on the scene and examining CCTV footage. It seems the young man had been in McDonalds and was subsequently involved in an altercation outside.......

Reassured by the omnipresent CCTV cameras that train their Cyclops vision on London's populace as they go about their business? Neither are we, particularly now that a senior police officer has claimed they don't cut crime Back in January we reported that London now boasts some 10,000 cameras, and Britain as a whole ranks first in the EU for "endemic surveillance". Yet Detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville says that barely 3% of robberies on......

A new piece by the arch-spraymaster. This latest work is on Newman Street, North of Oxford Street, and is believed to be Banksy's biggest work to date. We'd like to see somebody try and nick this one. If you fancy a rant about Banksy, check out this thread over on Kudocities. Image by jordi.martorell, one of many from the Banksy Flickr pool.......

Olympic news items are like buses, or decent Boris Johnson policies: you wait for ages then two come along at once. This week we've heard about the package of security measures announced for the Games, while the International Olympic Committee popped by to check up on how we're doing. The announcement in July 2005 of London's Olympic triumph came just hours before the worst terrorist atrocity the city has ever seen, so from the......

Everyone’s had to live with a lousy flatmate before, but this must be one of the worst: a man in Acton has admitted to setting up a camera to spy on his housemates in the shower. Well, it’s certainly more inventive than just not doing the washing-up. The creepy camera installation was rumbled whilst its perpetrator, 34 year-old carpenter Grzegorz Zdyb, was away on holiday. He lived in the house along with three women......

We celebrated the good guys of the London Ambulance Service and St Johns Ambulance looking out for us on New Year's Eve - but we're a little less jubilant about the crowd of cameras keeping a beady eye on us every day of the year. A report in September last year said there were 10,000 surveillance cameras in London recording our every move, and putting the UK into the highest ranking country in the......
