You could do a very short and varied pub crawl on the Whitechapel crossroads. The smart, modern White Hart commands the north-eastern corner, while the traditional, Kray-famed Blind Beggar stands across the road to the north-west.

The White Hart looks more impressive, both inside and out. Its grand, Edwardian frontage sports the titular deer, the emblem of Richard II. The inside is also prim and proper, the result of a recent refurbishment that saw the hegemonic McMullen group take over the old brewpub and give it a fresh look. Most impressive is the green-tiled bar, like a refugee from a Leslie Green Tube station.

The beers are pretty good here. Up to four casks, and a dozen or so kegs offer a mix of old reliables and lesser-known tipples. They've also got a decent wine list and a small selection of cocktails.

A visible kitchen beside the bar speeds out hearty meals. Burgers and pies are a particular speciality. This is a family friendly pub and comes with its own children's menu. A neatly decorated upstairs room is available for hire, or overspill at busy times.

Photos below are from 2015 and do not reflect the current look of the pub. We keep them in for historical/nostalgic reasons.
