The statue of Paddington Bear in Paddington station will be joined by another next month — this one in full colour, and munching on a marmalade sandwich.
Ahead of the release of the third Paddington movie — Paddington in Peru — on 8 November, over 20 Paddington statues will be peppered across the UK, depicting the ever-popular Peruvian bear sitting on a bench, and tucking into his favourite snack. With the bright red hat and blue duffel coat, the sculptures are modelled on the current filmic incarnation of Paddington, voiced by Ben Wishaw.
One of these sculptures will appear at Paddington station (where exactly hasn't yet been confirmed), where you can already find a permanent bronze statue of Paddington that takes after Peggy Fortnum's illustrations from the early Paddington books.
A second (we think, identical) sculpture will appear at Westfield London in Shepherd's Bush. Both of the sculptures will arrive early October, and will presumably stick around for a while before migrating elsewhere.
A further, lesser-known sculpture of the bear can be found in the churchyard of St Mary's Paddington Green, in the company of his creator Michael Bond.
