Santa's Lap: An A-Z Armchair

Every day until Christmas we will be pointing you in the direction of a London-inspired Christmas present that (with a bit of luck) you won’t already have on your list. Climb up onto our collective lap and we’ll see what we can move from our sack to your stockings…

This unique piece of furniture was created by artist Jane Revitt for The Poetry Lounge – part of the 2002 Poetry International Festival at The Royal Festival Hall.

More than a chair covered in the A-Z map of London, it also includes loudspeakers in the wings, so you can listen to your favourite tunes (On The Road Again, Where The Streets Have No Name, King of the Road...). You can also make hilariously offensive jokes about Brixton and Streatham being literally at the arse-end of London.

It's a one-off, a startling centrepiece for whatever room it ends up in, and it's up for sale now on eBay. At the time of writing, the highest bid is £350, with the auction ending on 16 December. The winning bidder must collect the booty from Cambridge.

The chair is one of many items being auctioned by London Mapping Festival in support of MapAction, a charity who map disaster zone to help relief efforts.
