When Londonist was little, we were told never to play with our food. Obviously, that message was never relayed to the Experimental Food Society, a collective of culinary crazies (including Bompas & Parr and The Rebel Dining Society) determined to school our tongues in any way they can.
This year, their annual event has three courses. For starters, there's an exhibition at the Truman Brewery (Friday 21 October 1pm-6pm & Saturday 22 October 11am-6pm) where a display of culinary art will cover over 8,500 square feet. The exhibition will contain delicacies such as camel milk ice cream (making its debut in the UK), edible clothes and a Gothic Chocolate House made entirely out of (you guessed it) chocolate. Yum.
After you've finished walking around that, you should have an appetite for the main course: a wild food banquet at The Folly on 21/22 October. As the picture above shows, there will be "comestible cabaret" from surly sorcerer Piff The Magic Dragon, pancake flipper The Fabulous Russella, lady DJs The Broken Hearts and BGT finalist Marawa plus a helping hand from survivalist Ray Mears and many other surprises.
If after all of that you have an Oliver-like hankering for something more, hold your water until 25 October. For their finale, the Society have teamed up with the V&A as part of the V&A Connects series. Titled "The Wilderness Years", Society representatives will be taking guests through some of the works of art unveiled at the exhibition and the processes undertaken to create them. As well as the talk, attendees will be treated to cake canapés, two complimentary glasses of wine and some video footage and photography.
More information and tickets can be found on the Experimental Food Society website.
