Ruislip Lido has its own miniature railway service — and occasionally it opens up for special behind-the-scenes tours.

The next of these takes place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024, featuring:

  • A workshop area open to the public, with railway staff there to answer any of your questions, including how you can become a volunteer
  • All of the railway's locomotives on display for children (and adults) to admire and sit in
  • Track maintenance vehicles will be on display too
  • The Turntable Tearoom at Willow Lawn serving refreshments
  • A shop selling souvenirs and railwayana

Trains on what is Britain's longest 12-inch gauge railway will of course be running too — three of them in fact — making their way through the woodlands that skirt Ruislip Lido*. And if you have a good time, you can book a seat on one of their Santa Specials running this December.

Ruislip Lido Railway behind-the-scenes, 14-15 September 2024, 11am-5pm, free (there's a small fee to ride the trains). All trains are wheelchair, pushchair and buggy friendly.

*No need to bring your swimming costume though — this particular lido is for geese only.
