Battersea Arts Centre Gets Huge Cash Boost

And that makes us very happy indeed. We fall deeper in love with the Lavender Hill venue each time we visit. Whether it's the magic of Don John or the immersive theatre of Punchdrunk's Masque of the Red Death, BAC never ceases to impress as a versatile stage for performing and visual arts. But its fate hung in the balance. Purse-tightening at Wandsworth Council threatened its very existence. So we're excited to hear of a £500,000 government grant and 20-year rent-free deal that not only assure the venue's survival, but will allow it to expand and flourish. The cash will be used to refurbish tattier parts of the centre, and put on a greater programme of community activities. In a venue that's seen many sincere rounds of applause, this happy ending gets the loudest.
