Four Dead From Knife Crimes And Calls For Change

knife_surrender_bin.jpg
It's been a less than stellar year for London as far as knife crime is concerned and yesterday was particularly upsetting as four fatal stabbings took place in different parts of the city.

A 19-year-old was stabbed in Edmonton, becoming the 20th teenager to die as a result of stabbing this year. Two arrests have been made in connection with the murder.

In Leyton, a man who crashed his car had first been stabbed. Four arrests have been made regarding the man who may have been fleeing at the time of the crash.

In Walthamstow, a man in his 20s was found after having been stabbed in the head in chest. He died shortly after.

Finally, a man in his 40s was found in the back of an abandoned pub in Tottenham. Three arrests have been made in connection with the death.

This tragic news is followed by the less than encouraging decision by a headmaster in Havering who has ordered stab-proof sweatshirts for his teachers. The folks at Bladerunner, who brought you the stab-proof hoodie, are custom designing sweatshirts for the faculty.

Meanwhile, Lily Allen has spoken out against knife crime in London. The pop singer has expressed her distress and has suggested a benefit concert to raise awareness and create unity against knife crime. Boris is thrilled to have someone the young people like talking about the situation. Let's hope we don't have news like this to report again.

Yes, Lily, because enough awareness hasn't been raised on this issue.

Stab-proof vests for teachers?!?! When was the last time a teacher got stabbed...at school?!

This kind of thing will do nothing but increase the climate of fear around these already disconnected youths which will only serve to make them evermore alienated.

I imagine Lily Allen's career as anti-knife advocate will be as successful as her stint as Orange Prize judge.

ooooh, that's hardly fair... If I'm not wrong she dropped out of the Orange Prize judging because of her miscarriage...

I don't think you can have too much awareness on an issue like this. I don't usually defend Ms. Allen, but let's not be bitchy for the sake of it...

Bollocks - she was appointed as a tokenist gesture to try and generate some interest in what has become a moribund prize. When she realised it would possibly involve, y'know, some actual work, she ducked out. Embarrassing for all concerned, really.
