Catch An Old Tube Train To Bletchley
Pic: London Northwestern

Another case of old tube* carriages getting a new lease of life. Trains that once trundled along the District line are heading out into the Home Counties, where they'll shuttle between Bedford and Bletchley.

Three two-car trains have been acquired by London Northwestern Railway (part of West Midlands Trains).  The carriages have undergone a complete refit, with new seating, USB ports and toilets. They're due to enter service in December 2018.

The Marston Vale line is not electrified, so the old units will be diesel powered.

These are by no means the first old underground carriages to be sold on. Another batch of D78 stock is heading to Wales, for example. A Londoner might observe that this is an excellent way to recycle old rolling stock; a recipient commuter might begrudge getting 'London's second-hand tat'.

*Pedant's note: we're aware that some people still maintain a distinction between 'tube trains' and 'underground/subsurface trains' but we do not. Sorry.
