Tube ponderings with Barry Heck

Our resident tube fancier dishes out daily thoughts on the London Underground.

As you may have seen, the latest edition of the Tube Map has just been published. The big headline being that Reading is now on the map, as part of the TfL Rail extension to the west (a precursor of the much-delayed Crossrail). All well and good, but am I the only one who checked every new station name just to confirm that all of them contain at least one of the letters of MACKEREL?  Meanwhile, Diamond Geezer takes a detailed look at the new (well, rebranded) line, as well his usual critical remarks about changes elsewhere on the map.

Good cause of the day

Head to Covent Garden tomorrow (Saturday) for the Great Christmas Pudding Race, a chaotic festive event raising money for Cancer Research UK. Gather a team and sign up to go head to head against other teams in a festive obstacle course around Covent Garden, while balancing a Christmas pudding on a tray. Find out more and sign up — or just turn up and offer your support to the teams.
