We've mapped all the 2024 General Election results for London, along with MP names.
The 2024 General Election saw an unprecedented swing to Labour. The national picture is well covered elsewhere, but here's what happened in London.
- Labour: 59 seats
- Conservatives: 9 seats
- Lib Dems: 6 seats
- Independent: 1 seat
Total = 75 seats
Labour performed well across the capital, gaining several staunch Tory strongholds such as the Cities of London and Westminster, which has never been red before. With Chelsea and Fulham and Kensington and Bayswater also switching to Labour, there are now zero Tory seats in Inner London. Labour have chipped away at Outer London, too, claiming several constituencies to the north-west and south-east. Diane Abbott retained her seat in Hackney North and Stoke Newington, despite recent controversies.
In Islington North, Jeremy Corbyn became the capital's only independent MP, in the constituency he had previously represented for Labour. The race wasn't even close in the end, with the former Labour leader winning by 7,247 votes.
The Lib Dems secured six seats, all in the south-west of London. That's double their haul of 2019, with three new seats taken from the Tories.
It wasn't all bad news for the Conservatives. Former leader Iain Duncan Smith clung on to his Chingford and Woodford Green seat, one that Labour might have won had they not dropped their candidate Faiza Shaheen in the run-up to the election. She ended up standing as an independent, and split the vote with her Labour replacement. Despite that win, the Tories have just nine seats in London, down from 21 last time round.
London's cultural venues played a big part in the election. As dawn was breaking, Keir Starmer delivered his victory speech from Tate Modern's Turbine Hall. Then, the RAF Museum was the scene of the last London constituency to declare. Hendon went to FOUR recounts, with Labour's David Pinto-Duschinsky squeezing in by 15 votes.
