Get this London-themed podcast in your ears, pronto.
Imagine sitting down for a pint in an historic London pub, with a bunch of expert London trivialists for company. That's the premise of TimeTable London, a new podcast conceived and produced by Christopher "I Never Knew That About London" Winn.
Each episode comes from one of the city's most historic pubs, with guests chosen for their deep love for and/or knowledge of London. Hosts Tam McDonald and Dr Geoff Browell, and guest host Dr Jessica Borge keep the anecdotes flowing alongside the beer.
The first episode sees Mark Mason join the crew at The Devereux just off Fleet Street. Mark is the author of The Importance of Being Trivial and Walk the Lines (in which he walks the length of each Tube line in search of the unusual). He has a 'you won't believe it' story for just about any London location. Over a pint, he riffs off Big Ben, the speed of sound, the early Tube map, armchairs on trains, the link between Kenneth Williams and Sherlock Holmes, and why he comes to London to get a bit of peace and quiet.
I'm the guest for Episode 2 of the show (out soon), with Katie Wignall of Look Up London on Episode 3.
If you're looking for further London podcasts, I can recommend Radio Sohemia (recordings of live events about Soho history and culture), the London Society's Talk About London podcast (usually themed around the built environment), and the voluminous archive of the Ladies Who London (historically focussed, but sadly on hiatus).
