He's travelled the world more than anyone, but David Attenborough's new show stays close to home.

Who needs herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain? London has its deer, parakeets, perching falcons and urban foxes. Even beavers and snakes.

London is one of the greenest major cities on Earth, and home to dozens of species of animal. Now, new show Wild London brings this metropolitan menagerie to the fore.

Sir David Attenborough presents the show in the year he turns 100. He's very much on home ground. The much-loved broadcaster has lived in Richmond — London's greenest borough — for decades.

Highlights of the show include the peregrine falcons who've made the Palace of Westminster home; the reintroduction of beavers to an Ealing park (and their harvest mouse neighbours); an urban fox turf war in Tottenham; and that phenomenon we've all witnessed... pigeons 'commuting' by Tube.

The BBC says: "Captured over his centennial year, this personal and poignant film is a timely insight into how cities can become homes for wildlife as well as ourselves."

Wild London starts on 1 January on BBC1 and iPlayer.
