A Multi-Sensory Van Gogh Experience Arrives In London This Summer

Bit early to predict the Most Instagrammed Art Experience of the Year title yet — but the immersive Van Gogh show that's just opened in Kensington Gardens surely has a shot at it.

Van Gogh Alive's landed in London this June, after a world tour that's taken it through 65 cities before reaching us (rude).

Setting up in Kensington Gardens, the multi-sensory installation includes a walk in representation of Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles painting, and a mirrored room where you can walk knee-deep through hundreds of (fake) sunflowers.

In a year which has been... low... on escapism so far, just the thought of so many other landscapes packed under one roof — a 25,000 square foot, purpose-built venue — seems like big news. The multi-sensory exhibition also comes with a classical score ('evocative') and aromas of Provence (unspecified).

Reviews from other cities suggest if you think of it as a lavish, Van Gogh-inspired experience — rather than a straightforward exhibition — it's a fun way to spend an hour surrounded by his sunflowers and stars, if not a cheap one: tickets start from £24, and the experience lasts for about an hour.

Van Gogh Alive runs from 4 June to 26 September, 2021, in Kensington Gardens. Tickets start from £24 for adults — book tickets here.
