Vote Now: Which Of These Murals Should Grace Walthamstow?

Each year Wood Street Walls organises a public vote to decide a new mural for Walthamstow. This year, it's all about outsider artist Madge Gill.

All you have to do is decide which of the three mural designs in the gif below you'd like to see gracing Walthamstow High Street.

Gill (1882-1890) was a self-taught artist. She began in earnest only after suffering a string of tragedies — the loss of two children, coming close to death herself, and losing the sight in one eye. Her numerous ink and pencil drawings were inspired by her spiritualism. They are finding a new audience after the recent discovery of a large portion of her work in Newham Archives.

Gill was born on Walthamstow High Street in 1882, as marked by a Waltham Forest heritage plaque. The giant mural would be an even more prominent memorial to this local hero. Vote now.

The mural is organised by Wood Street Walls and Works By Madge Gill. The winning work will be painted on the BAD Warehouse, 121 High Street, later this year. Look out for a series of events and workshops that will culminate in a retrospective exhibition of her rarely seen artworks. Voting ends 31 August.
