BFG DREAM JARS: The BFG Dream Trail is now open around London, tying in with the release of the new The BFG film in a few weeks. Look out for the 6ft dream jars dotted around London (we've provided a map and more information here). Free, take part at any time until 31 August

EXHIBITION+TALK: Explore the life of scholar and magician John Dee, one of the most enigmatic individuals of Tudor England, at The Royal College of Physicians. £5, book in advance, 5pm (talk starts at 6.30pm)

UKULELE HOOTENANNY: Head to the Queen of Hoxton to get strumming and take part in the Ukulele Hootenanny Summer Party. Open to beginners and experienced ukulele players, you'll be strumming away to old classics and modern pop songs in no time. Free (£20 returnable deposit for ukulele hire), 7pm-12am

SCRABBLE DATING: If you're fed up of swiping left on Tinder, why not go to The Ten Bells in Shoreditch for a night of good old game of Scrabble, mixed up with a spot of speed dating? Rude words allowed (and encouraged). £10, book in advance, 7pm

WATERSTONES FILM CLUB: Watch Possession, the film adaptation of A. S. Byatt's period drama novel, which won the Booker Prize when it was published in 1990. Takes place at Waterstones on Tottenham Court Road. Anna Fielding, Editor of Emerald Street, introduces the film. £5 (+booking fee), book in advance, 7pm

CANINE FILM SCREENING: To mark the release of new film Heart Of A Dog, dogs are invited to a screening at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (with human companions). They'll even be giving a pack of doggy popcorn to make a mess with munch on while they watch. One of those rare occasions when watching the audience could be more entertaining than watching the film. £5 human/£2.50 with dog, book in advance, 7.30pm

WHAT IF EVERYONE WAS ON BENEFITS?: Listen to panellists including Dr Kitty Stewart from London School of Economics and Rev Dr Malcom Torry discuss the future of the UK's social security system, in a talk hosted by Conway Hall Ethical Society. £10/£5, book in advance, 7.30pm

ROOFTOP ASTRONOMY: Navigate the solar system with warm punch and canapés in hand on the roof of The Culpepper in Shoredicth. Using powerful telescopes, astronomy expert Seb Jay will guide you around Saturn and Mars. £35, book in advance, 8pm
