BLOOD: Today’s opportunities to donate blood are at Salvation Army Headquarters, Islington Town Hall, Rye Lane Chapel and Lambeth Town Hall . See site for terms and conditions.

STREET THEATRE: Guerilla-style performances kick off today as part of InTRANSIT Festival. This unpredictable performance take place at various benches around the area of Kensington and Chelsea, with homeless and ex-homeless actors staging some kind of row to unwitting members of the public. Free, if you can find it, until 26 July

FOOD MARKET: The Lunch Market returns to its waterside location at Wood Wharf, serving up an enticing array of authentic dishes from around the world. Find over 30 stalls brimming with exotic treats: entrance to the market is free but you need to pay for food. Free, just turn up, 11am-3pm   

SCIENCE MUSEUM: The Energy Show returns to the Science Museum in time for the summer holidays and will be on stage until 3 August. Featuring fireballs, musical lightning and hydrogen-filled rockets, this family theatre show teaches nine kinds of energy and much more. £13.50/£9.50, prebook, 12pm & 2pm

MARITIME WORLD: Join a free talk about shipping, shipwreck and the merchant navy. Guildhall Library’s expert Jeanie Smith introduces you to Lloyd’s Marine Collection. Free, prebook, 2pm

GUIDED WALK: Explore St James's Park with Trail of The City's guided walk, meeting point is St James's Park tube station. Your guide unveils to you the darker side of the park: listen to stories about a king walking to his death, night prostitutes and even pelicans. £8/£6, just turn up, 6pm

MEDICINE MATTERS: Chelsea Physic Garden presents a talk about the importance of natural-based medicine. This lecture examines the past and present use of flowering plant constituents in Western medicine. £15 (including a drink), prebook, 6pm

ARCHITECTURE SCREENING: In collaboration with the Design Museum, RIBA hosts the screening of My Architect by Nathaniel Kahn, in order to celebrate the opening of the museum's latest exhibition about Louis Khan — father of the documentarist. £9/£6.50, prebook, 6.30pm

FLYING: Bermondsey-based 47/49 arts organisation hosts a talk about the concept of flight. The event brings together experts, artists and dedicated hobbyists, using the theme of flight as a springboard to educate and provoke the listening audience. £5+bf, prebook, from 6.30pm

PLAY UKULELE: Interested in taking up a new instrument? You can take part in an ukulele taster session tonight, no experience needed. You just have to turn up at the The Goldsmith pub in Borough, the ukulele will be provided. £28, prebook, 7pm

COMEDY: Battersea Art Centre's Scratch Bar hosts an Edinburgh preview from comedian Simon Munnery, who re-interprets the poetry of Soren Kierkegaard. £10/£8, prebook, 7.30pm

FREE CONCERT: The talented Peckham Chamber Orchestra performs for free at the Peckham Liberal Club. The programme includes Haydn, Jones and Vivaldi. Free, just turn up, 8.30pm
