Mind the Gap is a really simple game: all you have to do is keep your character (a hard-hatted mole called Monty) alive for as long as possible, while he jogs his way across a tube-themed landscape. Dodge pigeons, collect power-ups, bounce on interchanges and, most importantly, mind the gap. It's so simple, we almost dismissed it on first play. But a second run, followed by a third and a fourth, quickly led to a daily dose.

Plenty of London eye candy greets the player. The background comprises silhouettes of capital landmarks, while the foreground consists of twisting tube lines, along which you run. As you collect coins, you can access new characters, such as a London bobby, a Sherlock Holmes, and Queen Victoria. A daily challenge pokes you into collecting all the letters from a random station name. We can't be certain, but this might be the only mobile game — ever — to give you bonus points for spelling Plaistow.

Sadly, it's only available on iPhone/iPad. But, if you have one of those devices, if you love London, and if you adore cute death scenes, then get hold of this.

Mind the Gap is out now (and has been for some time) from the iTunes store. Totally free!
