Free Children's Theatre At Canary Wharf

Excellent news for parents struggling to fill weekends: there's five Sundays of free children's theatre about to start at Canary Wharf.

This festival kicks off on 30 June with two performances of La Tempesta, which combines puppetry and aerial theatre, followed next week by Theatre of Widdershins' interpretation of the tale of Rumplestiltskin. Beatrix Potter's beloved bucks Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny get a theatrical makeover on 14 July, and if you think the Globe's Midsummer Night's Dream will go over your small ones' heads there's a re-worked version from Chapterhouse Theatre Company on 21 July. Finally, a year on from London 2012, the London Ballet Company revives The Olympic Dream on 28 July.

All performances take place outdoors in Jubilee Park so your enjoyment will likely depend on the weather (though in the event of a massive storm a performance may be moved or cancelled). But the next two Sundays at least look nice; just keep an eye on the forecast.

Canary Wharf is making a real effort to become more of a weekend destination. A Saturday farmers' market launched earlier this month and the Summer Screen has a focus on weekend sporting and cultural events.

The Children's Theatre Festival takes place each Sunday from 30 June to 28 July in Jubilee Park, Canary Wharf. Times vary, see festival website for more information. All performances are free.
