London Fictions And Tudor London: A Night Of Capital Discussion

Lovers of our city should keep Thursday 18 April free, as two venues in Spitalfields host London-themed events.

Bishopsgate Institute goes for the literary angle, as London Fictions assesses the many novels set in, or inspired by, the capital. Speakers include authors Courttia Newland, Cathi Unsworth, Jerry White and Ken Worpole, in an event chaired by Andrew Whitehead. The event marks the launch of a book by the same name, on the same theme. Tickets are £10.

A few roads further south-east, in the upstairs bar of The Bell, a History in the Pub event raises a pint or two to Tudor London. Historians Suzannah Lipscomb and Mathew Lyons discuss the period, while Andrew Maginley from The Frolick provides Tudor tunes on his lute. There'll also be a Tudor quiz (with prizes) hosted by Londonist editor Matt Brown, who'll also offer up London's top five Tudor sites. Book your place for £5 via London Historians (free to members).
