Saturday 16 February

LAST CHANCE: to see these quirky, free art exhibitions: The Uncanny at Ronchini Gallery, High Resolution at Atlas Gallery and The Space Between the Stars at Scream.

FURNITURE: Take the kids to the Imagination Station at the V&A and create mini-furniture for fantasy rooms. Free, just turn up between 10am-5pm (all through half-term).

POEMS: Michael Rosen and Laura Dockrill perform fantastic poetry with kids in mind at the Southbank Centre. Tickets £8 adults, £4 under 16s, prebook, starts 11am.

BOOKS: Loads of venues around London are taking part in the Children’s Book Swap. Have a look at the World Book Day website for more information.

COMEDY: When we saw Max & Ivan: Are Con Artists a few months ago we described them as “too good for human words” and “magnificent unicorns of comedy”. You absolutely have to see it at Leicester Square Theatre as the duo round up a week-long takeover. Tickets £10, starts 7pm.

CHOIRS: Southwark Community Choir, Koruso! sings with fellow choir from Southwark's twin town of Langenhagen, Germany in a special concert at St Peter's, Walworth. Tickets £5 advance, £6 on the door, starts 7pm.

PRINCE: Watch 80s pop concert movie Sign O The Times at the Underground Picturehouse at the Waterpoet pub. Tickets £4.50, prebook, starts 7.30pm.

DUETS: Dancers explore what it means to duet through hip hop, contemporary and classical Indian dance with LiveVibe at Rich Mix. Tickets £10 advance, £12 on the door, show starts 8pm.

FOLK: There are still tickets left for the fourth Sam Lee & friends London gig this week, this time at the Tabernacle, W10. Cost £15, prebook, doors 8pm.

Sunday 17 February

ROWING: Watch the Greenwich Head of the River Race on the Thames between London Dock and Greenwich starting from 9.30am.

POEMS: John Hegley’s performing his Adventures of Monsieur Robinet show as part of the Southbank Centre‘s Imagine Children’s Festival, but it’s also very suitable for adults. Tickets £8 adults, £4 under 16s, starts 11am.

WALK: Join an archaeological foreshore walk at Fulham Palace with a guide from Thames Explorer Trust. Adults £8, children £5, prebook, starts 11am.

VINTAGE: Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair opens its doors for top vintage shopping, styling and homeware at beautiful Old Finsbury Town Hall, Rosebery Avenue. Entry is £4, from 11am-5pm.

BUSES: Watch out for vintage buses touring the now W3 and W7 routes around Finsbury Park, Alexandra Palace and Muswell Hill from about 11.30am.

THE BILL: Did you love the TV series about the Met? You can go on the Official Bill Tour of Wimbledon Studios today. Adults £35, family of four £85, apply online, tours at 12 and 2pm.

SPIT: If you are aged 16-30 (and weigh over 8 stone) go along to the spit clinic at East Finchley Library being run by Anthony Nolan to join the bone marrow donor register and potentially save a life. Free tea and cake! Free, just turn up between 11.30am-2.30 pm.

STROLL: Join a stroll round Soho learning about the area's boozers with Westminster Guide, Jo Moncrieff. Tickets £8, prebook, starts 12.30pm.

PANCAKES: Missed Shrove Tuesday? Head to Myatt’s Fields Park SE5 for Flipping Fun, pancakes in the park. Free, just turn up between 2-4pm.

TEA DANCE: To celebrate the reopening of Mile End's People's Palace, join an intergenerational tea dance with show dancers, instant classes and tea and cake. Tickets £5.50/£4.40 concessions, prebook, runs 2-5pm.

LGBT HISTORY: Hither Green Cinema presents The Celluloid Closet, a documentary showing how Hollywood has both reflected and defined how we think about homosexuality. Plus a fair before the screening with local LGBT groups. From 5pm (free), Tickets for film £5, screens from 6.30pm.

FAIRYTALES: Vila’s Mountain, a show of Serbian fairy tales for adults, starts a run at the Playhouse at Cable Street Studios, E1. Tickets £5 advance, £7 on the door, starts 7.30pm.
