If you have little interest in the Olympics, here's an event to exercise your grey matter.
Remember David Nutt? He was the Government advisor who was sacked for saying that drugs should be regulated based on the evidence of the harm they do, rather than historical happenstance and political whim.
Prof Nutt, who continues his drug research at Imperial College, will be speaking at the Cosy Science event on 7 August. These informal evenings offer the general public a chance to question eminent researchers about their work. Better yet, they're always held in a pub, so you can challenge Prof Nutt about alcohol abuse while downing a pint.
The venue this time is the Cittie of Yorke, 22 High Holborn, WC1V 6BN (presumably in the front bar). Entrance is free, but email [email protected] to secure your place. Prof Nutt also appears on a recent episode of the Guardian's excellent science podcast.
