As London obsessives, we like to bring you as many perspectives on London as we possibly can.
David Piddock’s new art exhibition, The Perspective of Time, offers yet another angle.
His new show is dominated by a series of panoramic urban landscapes. At first glance, they appear cartoonish, otherworldly. Look closer, and you’ll see they’re actually familiar London vistas: Greenwich Park, St Katharine Docks, the Southbank.
We particularly like the way the artist plays with perspectives, sometimes bringing the whole 360-degree panorama onto the canvas. They give the viewer the strange sensation of seeing around corners while looking straight ahead.
In addition to the urban landscapes in the show, The Perspective of Time includes a series of 10 smaller paintings called "Fragments." These pieces are the result of David exploring some of the lesser-known corners of London's museums, which sounds like a winning formula to us. You might notice some of these studies make their way into the larger works. You'll spot the V&A's Minotaur sculpture in the St Katharine’s Dock piece, for example.
