Cable Car Cabin To Go On Show At London Transport Museum

Love it or hate it, the cable car is coming. And it's coming fast. From next week, you can get a first glimpse of a cabin when a full-scale model comes to London Transport Museum.

The Emirates Air Line, as everyone except the public will call it, is due to open between Greenwich Peninsula and ExCel at some undisclosed point next summer (hopefully, in time for the Olympics, but there's no commitment). Calm your pant-dampening anticipation by heading along to the museum from 29 November (no web link available yet).

You'll be able to step inside one of the curvy podules, admire the audacious branding (Emirates got permission to associate its name with a London Transport roundel), and watch a video simulating the ride.

Meanwhile, out on the Thames, the foundations are fully constructed and await delivery of the steel supporting structures. Installation should begin before year's end.

Admission to the small exhibition is included in the normal London Transport Museum ticket price of £13.50/£10 (kids free).
