Barack and Michelle Obama landed at Stansted last night after visiting the home of Barack’s ancestors. Arriving early thanks to the threat of volcanic ash, the pair will stay at Buckingham Palace as guests of the Queen.
While in London the President will meet with David Cameron to discuss the relationship between our nations. Obama wants to talk tough on security issues in Afghanistan and Pakistan and Cameron wants to focus on getting more commitment from the US for Nato action in Libya.
Obama’s concerns will be addressed via the formation of the National Security Strategy Board to be announced today. The board will improve co-operation through new strategies on foreign policy, defence, and international aid.
With talk of war, assassination, bailout and whether a European should head up the IMF, the conversation might be heavy going. No doubt the Royal hosts will ensure that decorum is maintained. Hopefully Harry will be busy on exercises.
