Is it time for porn to be rehabilitated? Londonist favourite and cabaret star Ophelia Bitz certainly thinks so. She started curating her own night based around vintage porn and live talks in Brighton a year ago and is now bringing ArtWank to London this Thursday.
Bitz's mission statement is simple: she wants to entertain and educate while celebrating what she sees as the golden age of pornographic film with an open-minded audience of all sexualities, genders and viewpoints. As well as screenings of films, there will be talks and performances. The London launch event will include a talk from contemporary courtesan Kitty Stryker on "Why Sex Is Fun", burlesque star Crimson Skye will titillate with her Supermassive Black Hole while Tom Baker (a man perhaps better known as the Cthulu mask wearing cabaret singer HP Lovebox) will be accompanying the flicks with his accordion and own songs before the (hopefully) happy finish.
Online tickets have all disappeared but Ophelia assures us that there will be some tickets on the door. If you miss out this month, you can make a date for the next ArtWank episode which is scheduled for March 20th at the Roxy Bar and Screen.
