2012 Beach Volleyball Venue Gets Planning Permission

Westminster City Council has given a thumbs up to the temporary 2012 beach volleyball arena for Horse Guards Parade.

More Than The Games express doubts that the 15,000 seater venue will attract capacity crowds over the 13 days of matches, despite the "eye-catching" nature of the sport.

We don't expect beach volleyball will have too many problems in the popularity stakes, given its central and historic location abutting one of our top 10 London tourist attractions that don't suck: St James' Park and its pelicans, let alone the "eye-catching" activity itself.

Meanwhile, Team GB is still waiting to find out if they'll be fielding a host country team to compete on the parade ground beach.

Olympic tickets go on sale 15 March 2011. Sort of.
