Unusual Gold Hoard Found In Hackney Garden

A hoard of gold coins has been unearthed in a Hackney garden (a month too late for Talk Like A Pirate Day, alas). There's an unusual twist. The coins are not some Roman or Anglo Saxon treasure, but booty from the USA. The currency was probably minted in California and Philidelphia between 1854 and 1913 and discovered in an undisclosed location in the borough of Hackney. No one's sure who put it there or why but claimants have until the Spring to come forward. The 80 golden Yanklets (to phrase a coin) are said to be worth a six-figure sum, and went on show at the British Museum yesterday.
