Stars gathered at the London Palladium yesterday to celebrate its100th birthday. Bruce Forsyth, who began work at the theatre some 52 years ago as compere, unveiled a plaque to mark the milestone. Over its century, the Palladium has played host to the likes of Laurel and Hardy, Houdini and Frank Sinatra. In recent years, it's turned from variety performance to blockbuster musicals such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Sister Act and, from February, it will be home to the Wizard of Oz. Andrew Lloyd-Webber, the theatre's owner, used the occasion to announce the biggest refurbishment in the venue's history. Other notables in attendance included Ken Dodd, Jason Donovan, Lesley Garrett and Des O'Connor. Image by Charbel.Akhras in the Londonist Flickr pool.
