Elizabethan London Returns With Sound Sculpture By Susan Philipsz

Turner nominee Susan Philipsz unveiled her first London commission over the weekend, producing a 'song cycle' for the Square Mile. But it's also a sculpture. These crazy artists. What boundaries will they blur next? Philipsz's work, Surround Me, places loudspeakers at six locations throughout the City, in quiet alleys and yards (there's a map here). On every weekend until January, the installation will pump out prerecorded ditties and sound effects to recall the street life of Elizabethan London, confusing and charming passers-by in equal measure. The Beeb have a decent interview with the artist, who is one of the favourites to claim the Turner Prize in December.
