Various reports are coming in that there was a near-miss during rush hour on the Hammersmith & City line yesterday. A westbound train was mistakenly switched onto the eastbound track shortly after departing Plaistow at around 8am. The driver stopped the train when she realised what had happened, while an eastbound service on the same track destined for West Ham was held at a red signal around one kilometre away. The incident is being linked to a "signalling irregularity", and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch will launch an investigation. It comes less than a month after a runaway engineering train ran through six stations on the Northern line.
