Trouble At Colliers Wood Tower

Work to transform the blighted tower at Colliers Wood, one of the most hated buildings in the capital, is running into trouble. The project to convert the tower into flats, which began in May this year, was halted after workers found it impossible to remove an electricity substation. The cure now seems worse than the sickness, as lurid green netting and crumbling masonry now greet the eyes of local residents who cast their eyes skywards, while the porno filmmakers who use the basement show no sign of moving on. Merton council have issued an order demanding the developer "beautify" the building, though it will take more than the architectural equivalent of a streak of Maybelline and a dab of L'Oreal to prettify this eyesore.
