New Restaurant Review: Bar Boulud

The recently opened Bar Boulud, located in the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is chef Daniel Boulud’s twelfth restaurant and first venture into Europe. The menu features three burgers from DBGB’s menu in NYC the Yankee, the Frenchie, and the Piggie. The burgers regularly found on NYC’s best burger lists have quite a reputation.

For a swarve restaurant in a posh location the prices are actually not that bad. Mains will set you back anything from £12 - £23. The waiters are all French, or perhaps just have French accents and the service is impeccable. The night we visited there was a special rosé wine on offer, served by the glass at your table from a massive three litre glass bottle. Quite a sight watching well-dressed waiters lug such a bottle around the dining area.

After some contemplation over what to eat, Londonist went with a burger. The Piggie topped with smoky BBQ pork and red cabbage slaw arrived looking like a carbon copy of the press photograph. Cooked medium rare, the burger was a beast and due to the posh surroundings was cut into two pieces before being consumed.

Just to make sure it wasn’t only the burgers that were tasty, we also tried the sea bass. The fish was great as were our two desserts and plate of macaroons. Bar Boulud truly deserves its reputation as one of London's best gourmet burgers, certainly worth a trip in our books.

Bar Boulud is located inside the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park (SW1X 7LA). Visit the restaurant online at www.barboulud.com.
