Exhibition On Tube Station Architect Comes To V&A

The Victoria & Albert museum will mount an exhibition this autumn dedicated to Charles Holden, the architect responsible for building some of the best-loved Undergrounds stations in the 1920s and 30s. Along with building many of the celebrated modernist designs on the Piccadilly line, such as Sudbury Hill and Southgate, Holden also designed the mammoth art deco LU headquarters at 55 Broadway. In a prolific career, the architect (whom we stalked a few years back) also built Senate House and Zimbabwe House in central London. The V&A exhibition, Underground Journeys: Charles Holden’s Designs for London Transport , brings together photographs, original drawings, models, and films. It runs from 2 October to 13 February, and entrance is free.
