Art Preview: Groove Grove Graphics

ggg.jpg Revolution, rebellion, hedonism and the world-shaking music of West London explode onto Londonprintstudio’s latest exhibition - Groove Grove Graphics, at Harrow Road Gallery this Thurs.

Inspired by West London’s spectacular contribution to pop culture, the exhibition features graphics, fashion, design and music from the early 50’s to the present day. At the centre of the London’s underground and Punk cultures in the 60’s and 70’s, the area saw The Clash, Motorhead and The who settling there amongst a host of legendary record companies. The succession of new music that has grown out of the area’s varied communities has played a major role in the world’s music scene and the area has been the setting for films such as Absolute Beginners and Performance.

Groove Grove Graphics features some absolute delights such as previously unseen photos of King Tubby, the work of graphic artist Barney Bubbles, work by pioneering design-meisters Hipgnosis, photos by John ‘Hoppy’ Hopkins, Stella Whalley,,Rod Vass, ,Dave Hendley and the ultimate anarchic art from Jamie Reid. Alongside will be memorabilia, an impressive collection of record sleeves (amassed by members of the local community) and vintage fashion pieces by Zandra and BIBA
