The biggest neon light installation in Europe is coming to Gloucester Road Tube. The station, noted for its regular programme of Art on the Underground, will show the work from the end of summer, just as commuters need a photonic boost. The radiant distraction will run 80 metres along the platform and use 2000 neon tubes. Its Californian creator, Pae White, has a multimedia vision: “Imagine a giant Persian rug as a line drawing—that’s what I want to create in neon,” she says. The work will remain in place for three years. We look forward to the ironic announcements about not taking flash photography on the platforms.
