Man Stabbed After Responding To Fake Ad

The dangers of taking a Gumtree ad at face value were demonstrated again last week when a man was beaten and stabbed after going to buy a used BMW in Wanstead. The 39-year old was attacked by a group of up to five men, who relieved him of the cash he'd been carrying to purchase the vehicle. Though he probably doesn't consider himself lucky, the victim's injuries are not life-threatening, which is more than could be said for the 42-year old man stabbed in the heart last August after being ambushed in an eerily similar fashion in Barking. Though such attacks remain very much in the minority, users of the popular site would do well to remind themselves of the safety advice that Gumtree endorses.
