Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has entered the building. Proud's Chelsea gallery is running an exhibition of early photos of the King. Elvis at 21 shows a callow yet assured Pelvis, newly signed to the RCA label and about to pull out of the harbour of obscurity into the straits of fame. The shots by Alfred Wertheimer show Presley during his 1956 tour of North America. It was a year that would see the King presumptive top the nascent charts with hits such as Love me Tender, Heartbreak Hotel and Don't Be Cruel. The photographs capture Elvis' undeniable stage swagger and the more intimate moments before and after performances. Elvis at 21 runs at Proud Chelsea until 31 January.
