Last Minute Listing: Soane's By Candlelight

"Sorry about the mess"

Everyone's favourite 'hidden gem that's actually really well known' holds an open night this evening. Sir John Soane's Museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields is as heavy on historical bric-a-brac as it is on apostrophes. The confusion of rooms and stair cases contains paintings by Hogarth, endless brasses, bronzes and busts, and the sarcophagus of Egyptian king Seti I. The museum is always free to visit, but tonight you get to see the enigmatic collection as Soane would have shown it off: by candlelight. Entry is from 6-8.30, and be prepared to queue.
