News has been coming in this morning that a major (and we mean planes blowing up mid-flight) terrorist attack has been foiled by the UK intelligence services.
The threat concerns an attempt to smuggle explosives onto multiple US-bound planes via hand luggage. Although the plot seems to have been disrupted, the threat level remains critical (i.e. an attack is expected imminently and indicates an extremely high level of threat to the UK) in case back-up plots exist.
Needless to say, all UK flights are subject to delays and increased searches. Long queues outside Heathrow terminal 1 are reported. Hand luggage has been banned on all departures.
We'll bring you more news as it breaks.
