Resonance FM are putting on a days worth of fund-raising this Sunday at the Arts Theatre, near Leicester Square, with afternoon comedy and evening music. Londonist's favourite radio station is always in need of funds, and is run almost exclusively by volunteers, so we'll be going to support the charity just as much as we'll be going to see the acts. In there afternoon, there's a comedy gig with a very strong bill of......

What if god was one of us... Grow up. A letter written by Einstein, dismissing the idea of god and the bible as "pretty childish" has sold for $400,000 at a Bloomsbury auction. We are living in a material world... and Posh and Paris are competing through a tabloid pout marathon to flog their wares across the West End C'mon feel the noise... and map it for DEFRA Keep on movin':Jazzie B gets OBE......

Architecture Week starts tomorrow and we don't know where to start. All things architectural get a week to shine across the country for this week and London, which has the shiniest of shiny buildings has a particularly packed schedule. The website has the full programme and a handy itinerary compiler but there's at least one thing we wanted to tell you about as things kick off. It's the live broadcast of sound of Yorkshire......

“With any luck, they also eat squirrels and tiny, annoying dogs.” So said AlyxL, commenting on our earlier post about big cats. Well AlyxL, if that is your real name, it really doesn’t matter. We have occasionally popular performance artist Mark McGowan to act in that capacity. The serial stunt-puller ate a corgi live on Resonance FM last night. (By ‘live’, we really hope the Metro is talking in the broadcasting sense.) McGowan, whose......

One of the reason that young people in Britain aren't interested in politics is this: Politicians make policies with old people in mind. It's true. The pensions whitepaper that came out today penalises young people, making them work until 68, whilst current elderly folks enjoy retirement at 65. Student top-up fees - there is a funding crisis in Briatin's universities, so who pays? The students, of course! Old people are serial voters, and serial......

With the Editor away, I'm going to use this opportunity to toot my own horn (as it were) I (Nick) will be on Londonist's favourite London radio station, Resonance 104.4fm tonight, live at 9pm, as part of a panel on The Issue, a political discussion show hosted by Mark Hanson. Here is a synopsis of the show: Could it be that the New Labour project is about to explode? This week Mark Hanson asks......

Hurray and woo-ha! Londonist's favourite radio station Resonance FM have gone and got themselves a blog. Started at the beginning of February the blog initially consisted of little plugs for various Resonance FM shows, but now they've had a few weeks to play around with it the site is definitely picking up speed with some nice photography (above), video footage of people playing "the ringtone of Peg by Steely Dan through the letterbox" at......

We know, we know: it's nowhere near October, plus they've not even bothered to insert the apostrophe into Halowe'en... but let us forget our pedantic misgivings and embrace what is billed as "The edgiest film festival in the UK." The Halloween film festival, has been running since the mid-90s and is designed to present a cross-section of the "best, most challenging, quirky and exciting" short films as well as presenting bands and special events......

We had heard tell that Cory 'Boing Boing' Doctorow had been seen making the ocassional foray into Speakers' Corner, but we always thought it might be difficult, nay impossible, to find hard news coverage of said event. Then we stumbled across ZD Net.co.uk (Where Technology Means Business folks) and our curiosity was sated. We even got a photo of Cory on a stepladder, which we've reproduced here in flagrant opposition of copyright laws...if you......

We love the London Music Collective, if only because we have them to thank for the glorious Resonance FM radio station. But they do do other stuff (like the cracking Resonance magazine for example), and at the beginning of November the collective will be staging their 4th Annual Festival of Experimental Music. Here's the lineup: November 1: AMM with David Jackman + Louisa Martin + Ivan Seal November 2: Richard Chartier (pictured) + Gross/Fages/Guthrie......

In case you hadn't noticed yet, Resonance FM is, by far and away, Londonist's favourite radio station. Seriously, if you don't have 104.4FM preset on your stereo then you really are missing out... unless that is you're all technologied up and you're listening to their podcasts. Yes, that's right, Resonance have recently begun to offer a selection of their shows as MP3s which can be subscribed to and downloaded automatically to your iPod (or......

Capital FM is back at the top of the Rajar charts, according to the latest figures for the April-June period. Heart went from a market-leading 7% share to 5%, whereas Capital held steady at 6.1%. Beneficiaries of Heart's slump appeared to be the smaller stations like LBC and Choice FM. The ad men at Heart FM will be pleased to know that their tv ad, featuring Jamie Theakston stalking members of the public, was......

Congratulations to Londonist's breakfast show presenter of choice Christian O'Connell of XFM. He and his show picked up three awards at the Sony Radio Academy Awards last night: Breakfast Show Of The Year, The Entertainment Award (presented by Shakin’ Stevens - pictured), and The Competition Award (for the Rock School contest run last November). Londonist actually gets easily bored of XFM's 1600rpm spin cycle-esque rotational play of its daytime playlist (although we love X-Posure......

Who knew that the battle of the London radio station was such 'headline news'? Look at " target="blank">all the coverage dedicated to the frankly pretty boring news that Heart FM "leapfrogged" its rivals Capital FM and Magic FM in the Radio Joint Audience Research league table. According to the Independent it's the "upbeat playlist of 1980s classics and contemporary hits for thirty-something women" that make Heart FM such a winner, with "Londoners tuned into......

As much as we'd like to, we can't really take the piss out of Heart FM because we never listen to it (we make it a rule never to listen to stations named after organs of the body). But after today it might be a bit easier to take the Mick with the news that the latest addition to the Heart team is Jamie Theakston. This Easter Theakston will replace 'jolly' Jono Coleman on......

If you've failed to get tickets for either Shellac at the Scala or And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead at ULU tonight, then can Londonist suggest you take your good self down to the Solid Steel club night at Ruby Lo on Orchard Street. In case you haven't heard it yet Solid Steel is the Ninja Tune radio show (Londonist listens in on Resonance FM whenever we can stay awake),......
