Free gigs ahoy! The Pipettes have announced they're to play a date at Koko on September 2 and the best bit is it's free! Well, kind of. You do have to pay a £2.50 postage fee (!) but for that you can bagsy yourself four tickets to see the new Pipettes 3.0 line-up courtesy of AOL. There's two further acts playing that night that are yet to be announced but we're hoping one of......

Tonight Amy Winehouse will be hosting her own clubnight 'Snakehips at The Monarch' on Chalk Farm Road. On Saturday night we spotted her chatting to the amazing DJ Bioux in the small room at Proud and now it seems the pair will be going head to head for a DJ battle playing 50s and 60s. Judging by what he was playing on Saturday we think this would be brilliant even without Amy. We dread to......

Canadian pop band Dragonette produced one of our favourite albums of 2007 before all went quiet with the band. Now they're back performing round the UK and this Saturday night hit up the ever-so-trendy Proud Galleries in Camden. We've found it dreadfully hard to get into Proud in the past; hell even Cameron Diaz was apparently turned away one night due to them being at capacity by 9pm, but once you're inside it's a......

The Legal Cafe 81 Haverstock Hill NW3 4SL 020 7586 7412 Expect to pay: around £3-£6 for a light bite, £2 for a coffee, £120 for a one hour legal consultation. Rating: 7 out of 10 Soups, salads, sarnies and...subpoenas? This tasteful cafe brings new meaning to the phrase 'law and order'. On the one hand, it's a friendly corner café serving light bites and superior Illy coffee. On the other, it offers cut-price......

Five minutes walk from Chalk Farm Tube station, or Kentish Town Overground if you dare, stands the 176 Gallery - a former Methodist church turned exhibition centre. The building is worth a trip in its own right, but make sure you get along in the next 24 hours to catch a psychogeographic video installation from Gerry Fox. Living London has been showing since late January, but reaches the end of its run on Sunday.......

We love it when great club nights not funded by some huge company come along. DIY night NoOneDied has been pumping it up at The Enterprise in Chalk Farm for over a year and given they even managed to survive the fire, we thought it was about time to check up on them. When and why did you set NoOneDied up? We planned No One Died around Christmas 2006, but the first night wasn't......

Once is a happenstance, twice is a coincidence, but three times is a conspiracy. First the maid of Chalk Farm is painted over (since restored), then we heard the Rosebery Avenue cash machine stencil has also been defaced. And today, it seems the Clerkenwell Road 'Old Skool' pic has been 'collected'. The mural had been surrounded by sheeting for a few weeks, so many suspected it was being removed. But who's doing it? Councils?......

While everyone was busy watching last night's fire, an act of destruction was taking place at the other end of Chalk Farm Road. The famous maid stencil by Banksy is in a parlous state. Someone has painted over most of the image, and stenciled the words 'all the best' over the top. Small groups keep pausing in front of the defaced mural, possibly on their way back from looking at the fire damage. Throw......

The Germaniaxx Isn't the weather glorious? Stand in the sunshine and it's definitely spring. This makes us happy! This means that we can walk in the park and get about town and not feel miserably wintry and therefore desperate to waste our hard earned on firelit pubs and woolly accessory buying. Well, not quite so much. We are, however, saving up our cash to spend on Creme Eggs and the rebuild Camden Market fund so......

A major fire has broken out in Camden Town. Part of the Canal Market, Chalk Farm Road, caught fire around 7pm. As dense black smoke billowed out from beneath shutters at least four fire engines and a surveillance helicopter rushed to the scene. Nearby shopkeepers rallied together bringing buckets and extinguishers. The market appeared to be closed and there is no indication of any injuries. 7.50 This is a major, major fire. At least......

One of Banksy's most famous stencils - the maid of Chalk Farm - got an augmentation this week. Some japester of a joiner added a mantelpiece on Sunday evening. But street art is the most ephemeral of mediums, and the rogue fitting was removed faster than you can say chim-chimeny. Fans of Banksy might like to visit the Andipa Gallery (or 'Galley' as they accidentally call themselves in the press release) on Walton Street,......

We're all about rolling today. From 2 wheels to 4: London ladies listen up! Do you look good in fishnets? Have you a barely repressed aggressive streak? Want to get fit? If so, we might have found your ideal sporting hobby. Rockin Rollers want to rock with you! The sport is roller derby made famous by the 70s film Rollerball. 2 all-women teams skate furiously around an oval track and try and knock each other......

Whilst spring may be the season in which our thoughts turn to love, autumn is definitely the time when it's a bit too cold for all that flowery stuff and so we turn to art for inspiration instead. This weekend will be a busy one for art lovers in the capital, as the art fair season comes into full bloom. Returning for its fifth year, the Frieze Art Fair will showcase the work of......

There is a white wall between Chalk Farm Tube and the Roundhouse that must see more graffiti turnover than anywhere outside Shoreditch. The recent work by Jef Aerosol, the punk lady and some cruder efforts by Cartrain, were recently whitewashed over. The Banksy maid was preserved, of course. Banksy has attained a level of establishment respect that gives his stencils some kind of listed status. Not everyone appreciates his efforts though. The maid now......

This charming lady has been pasted to the wall outside Chalk Farm Station. You know, the same stretch of bricks and mortar where the Banksy maid still sweeps stuff under the carpet. Presumably, this is an ad campaign for the punk exhhibition at the Barbican. But tell us if we're wrong.......

Well, the big man’s in town – over thirty times – so we thought it apt to track down his other work in the capital. On the map at the bottom, green points indicate temporary installations that form the Event Horizon project, and purple markers are permanent pieces that predate this show. 1. Quantum Cloud, Greenwich Peninsula Did you know that London contains a Gormley sculpture taller than the Angel of the North? Quantum Cloud......

Every era has it poets, so if you are still stuck with Wordsworth, Sassoon and Keats as your only frames of reference for just the price of a pint you can gain access to London’s poetry circuit and soak up some modern day verse. A good place to sample spoken word is at London’s very own Poetry Café in Covent Garden where Poetry Unplugged takes over the café’s tiny basement every Tuesday evening. This......

The clubbing part of Londonist are about to jump in a car and head down to dance to Sasha and only the bloody Pet Shop Boys at Bestival (thanks to everyone who entered our competition to win tickets, but you should have read the date - it was 2005!). Before we whizz down to Portsmouth though, we thought we'd better fill those of you left in London as to what's going on this weekend.......

Opening tonight at the Proud gallery in Camden is Shoot! A History of the World Cup in pictures. Yes, the name is almost unbearably predictable, but judging by the website it does look like they've lived up to their tagline, which reads "classic and unseen photography from all seventeen World Cup Finals 1930-2002". So there's a lot of atmospheric black and white shots of men who look far too old to be playing professional......

Check out the latest from Banksy. On the corner of Chalk Farm Road and Adelaide Road. The stencilwork was apparently ‘Commissioned by the Independent’, according to an article in yesterday's Bono-edited edition. Commissioned? Are they aware he’s done this one before? Banksy explains: This is a portrait of a maid called Leanne who cleaned my room in a Los Angeles motel. She was quite a feisty lady. According to the Indy, the work, called......

Formed out of members of Art of Noise & The Auteurs, we first came across Infantjoy while wallowing in 'OMG SARAH NIXEY IS BACK!!!111!!' induced glee a few months ago. Guest starring on their working of 'Silent Night', we were intrigued by this duo who seemed to produce mesmerizing, elegant instrumental music. Almost cinematic sounding, their concept album Where The Night Goes is based on the idea that 'each track takes place at a......
