Best Gigs In London This Week: 4-10 August 2014

Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects five small/medium gigs around town this week.

Monday 4 August

Kieran Leonard, The Islington, Islington

Kieran Leonard splits his time between London and LA — but is pretty vocal about how he would rather be here! Have a listen to Harold Pinter is Dead, taken from the album Out of Work Astronaut which you can buy on iTunes. Free entry. @KieranLeonard, @TheIslington

Wednesday 6 August

Owl John, Oslo, Hackney

https://soundcloud.com/frightened-rabbit/owl-john

This is a new project from the front man of Frightened Rabbit, Scott John Hutchison. Scott explains that his songs come from his inability to be an effectual human, so don't expect songs about fluffy bunnies playing in the afternoon sun. Tonight you can listen to him performing in Hackney. @owljohn, @OsloHackney

Thursday 7 August

Electric Palms and Storms, Old Queens Head, Islington

https://soundcloud.com/stormsband/swell

This week's double bill. About Electric Palms: these guys are an all male four piece from London peddling quality surf pop. About Storms: previous favourite of the show for one simple reason — this song gets better and better with every play. @ElectricPalms, @stormsband, @oldqueenshead

Friday 8 August

Myles Sanko, Blues Kitchen, Camden

He is a UK based soul singer who is currently unsigned but frankly, that can't last long. This is a late gig with the live music not starting until 10pm — but make a night of it and get there early to enjoy the food and cocktails. @mylessanko, @TheBluesKitchen

Saturday 9 August

Grace Savage, Camden Beach, The Round House

https://soundcloud.com/grace-savage-official/locked-out-of-heaven-message

Firstly this is free — and it's on a beach in Camden — what is not to love.  Secondly we almost never play covers but this is too good to ignore. Grace Savage is currently the UK’s No.1 Beatboxing Female Champion. She was mentored by former female world beatbox champion Bellatrix during her training and has spent the past five years gigging and touring the country. @_GraceSavage, @RoundhouseLDN
