Book, poetry and spoken word events in London this week

Wednesday: Lindsey Hilsum, Channel 4 News International Editor, talks about Libya at Foyles (6.30pm, free but reserve a place).

Sam Leith and David Lindo join paper folding master Mark Bolitho at Adam St Members' Club for Salon XVI and a night of winging it (7.30pm, £10).

If you run you'll just catch a workshop for kids aged 8-12 about Oliver Twist and living in Fagin's London, at Mill Hill Library (2.30pm). For more advance notice, there's a similar event next Wednesday at East Finchley Library (2.30pm).

Wolf Poetry magazine launch issue 26 at the Poetry Cafe with co-founder James Byrne and guests Ruth Padel, Helen Moore, Alfred Corn, Giles Goodland, Sophie Mayer and Michael McKimm (7.30pm, free).

Michael Murphy and Matt Simpson launch new works from Shoestring Press at the Poetry Library, with other readings from John Lucas, Deryn Rees-Jones and Maurice Riordan (8pm, free but booking essential).

Thursday: Simon Critchley discusses religious and political disappointment at the London Review Bookshop with Giles Fraser, who resigned as Canon of St Paul's over the Occupy protest.

Inua Ellams and Harry Baker are the guests at Bang Said the Gun for some stand up poetry (8pm, £5).

Friday: Kat Francois hosts a night of intimate SLAM poetry at the Poetry Cafe (8pm, £5 / £3).

Saturday: John Hegley and guests take a spot of Elevenses at the Poetry Cafe (11am, £6 / £5).

Sunday: Get a chocolate antidote with some smooth poetry at Jazz Verse Jukebox at Ronnie Scott's, with Jumoke Fashola, AF Harrold, Raymond Antrobus, Floetic Lara and Anthony Anaxagorou (7.30pm, £8).

Tuesday: Fleur Adcock, Anthony Howell, Jaki McCarrick and Abigail Parry all read for free at an Ambit event at the Betsey Trotwood (6.45pm).

Novelist and art and antiques expert Jeremy Cooper is at Large Glass on Caledonian Road (6.30pm, £10).

Literary salon Polari welcomes Terry Ronald, Jon Gordon, Gordon Rose Collis, Michael Wynne and Chris Chalmers to the Southbank Centre (7.45pm, £5).

The Poetry Cafe's weekly open mic night is hosted by Niall O'Sullivan (7.30pm, £5 / £4).
