Oyster Extension Permits To Be Scrapped

Finally, they’ve seen sense. In response to feedback that “Oyster Extension Permits weren’t well understood” Transport for London today announced that agreement has been reached with London’s train companies to scrap the outer zone “exit visa” from the end of May.

Many of you who have been overcharged as a result of ignorance, “user ineptitude” or ticket gate failure will be wryly satisfied. It may have taken over 12 months but your wrangles with Oyster customer services and complaints to TFL were worth it in the end. Removal of this needlessly bureaucratic bit of digital admin means ‘pay as you go’ finally means just that.

Other notable outcomes of the morning meeting are the promise of a new, clear and combined Rail and TfL Oyster map for London for all rail and tube stations and a commitment from TfL and the train companies to work together to finalise plans to extend Oyster PAYG outside London.

The exact date for removal of the OEP requirement is still to be confirmed.

    I still don’t understand what Oyster Extension Permits mean, and I’ve really tried, having read loads about them.

    I’ll just stick to my bike, I think.

      Essentially you only needed them if you were starting your journey within the zones of your travelcard and went outside of the zones of your TC using a Non-TfL service .

      I.e going from Waterloo to Feltham(Z6) with a Z1-4 travelcard would have needed an OEP
