Another weekend of protests is here. Today at 12pm, students, lecturers, union members and anyone else concerned at increased tuition fees and cuts to the education maintenance allowance will gather outside ULU on Malet Street. A march to demonstrate continuing opposition, even though the measures have passed through Parliament, will head to Parliament Square via the Strand and Trafalgar Square, heading to a rally on, er, Millbank.
On Sunday, the amorphous group behind the protests at Topshop and Vodafone are heading to “a” Tesco Metro at 11.30am and the Boots by Bond Street tube at 1pm to highlight the issue of corporate tax avoidance. Boots recently moved their HQ to Switzerland to ‘realise tax efficiencies’. The protest – which you may have seen decided and arranged on Twitter – will take the shape of the ‘Big Society Health Service’ setting up ‘hospitals’ on the shop floor to point out what the saved tax could be spent on.
